Southampton Football Club is an English professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. The club was formed in St. Mary's in 1885 as St. Mary's Y.M.A., and after being renamed Southampton St. Mary's they played their first competitive match in a national tournament in October 1891, when they entered the First Qualifying Round of the 1891–92 FA Cup. The club began playing at The Dell in 1898, and moved to St. Mary's Stadium in 2001. Since playing their first competitive match, over 1,000 players have made a competitive first team appearance for the club, of whom 285 have made between 25 and 99 appearances, as listed below. Prominent names amongst these include the then England captain, Kevin Keegan, who made 80 appearances between February 1980 and April 1982, and Alf Ramsey, who played 96 matches in the 1940s, before going on to manage England to victory in the 1966 World Cup. This list also includes players who were trainees at the Saints Academy before having longer careers with other clubs, such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gareth Bale and Chris Baird, as well as several members of the 2013–14 first-team squad. ==List of players== Appearances and goals are for first team competitive appearances only, including substitute appearances.
